The 2018—2019 season marks the 25th anniversary of Encore…The Concert Band.
We hope you will join us in celebrating our quarter-century of making great music! See the Concerts and Tickets section of the website for the details of the exciting concerts ahead of us.
Starting Off the Season
Encore is delighted to begin its 25th anniversary celebrations by sharing the stage with another thriving concert band organization: Western University’s New Horizons Band, along with special guest Dr. Roy Ernst.
In 1991, while a professor at the renowned Eastman School of Music, Dr. Ernst developed the idea of New Horizons bands: places where adults could start, or return to, the experience of playing in a band. His efforts spawned the growth of scores of New Horizons bands in the United States, Canada and beyond. Encore is very pleased to have Dr. Ernst join us to conduct several pieces on our October concert program.
For nearly 20 years, the New Horizons program at Western University – the first and largest New Horizons program in Canada – has provided an encouraging and enjoyable platform for music-making by its members. Their backgrounds may differ, but members all share the same enthusiastic spirit, supportive attitude, and love of playing in a concert band. With over 200 participants, playing in various ensembles at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, the members of Western University’s New Horizons Band perform regularly in the London area. But this group does not confine itself to local concerts. Members of the band have completed seven performance tours in Europe, with the eighth – to Ireland – slated for July 2019. From Italy to Estonia, these musicians know how to combine music and fun!
Encore…The Concert Band thanks the following organizations for their generous support of our 25th anniversary season:
